The Guard Apprenticeship Program Initiative (GAPI) is an effective training program that teaches Service members occupational and trade skills. It offers an "earn while you learn" experience whereby Service members capitalize on their world-class training learned during their military careers and learn new concepts and skills through a paid apprenticeship in order to obtain a national certification in one of over 100 trades.

This nationally recognized program facilitates apprenticeship opportunities for National Guard and Reserve Component Service members through partnerships with state governments and federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Additionally, GAPI works closely with employers, colleges, unions, and other stakeholders to garner feedback and refine our program to ensure worthwhile apprenticeship program opportunities for Service members.

There are benefits for employers as well as participating Service members. Training and certifying our nation’s Service members isn’t just a good thing to do – it makes good business sense. Being a Sponsor and certifying these skills will help America prepare for the next chapter of our nation’s history and ensure we have certified and retained hard-working individuals to fill skilled jobs.
